UIS-Commission on artificial cavities

UIS-Commission on artificial cavities
In 1988 the UIS
(Union Internationale de Spéléologie) formed a workinggroup on
artificial cavities to streamline the reasearch. It's aim was to bring the
many studygroups in contact with eachother. In 1993 the workinggroup was
transformed into a commission. The commission is presided by Joep Orbons.

What are souterrains?
Souterrains are human made subterranean structures like quarries, mines, waterwells,
road- and railway tunnels, underground aquaducts, catacombes, military underground
defence system, troglodyte dwellings etc.

"Souterrains" on the Internet WWW
The "Souterrains" webpages are produced by the commision on artificial cavities.
They contain all kind of recent information on artificial cavities or souterrains.
As soon as a new publication reach the editors address, it is summarised and put on the
web. Even so with small articles about countries or studygroups. If someone has a
question concerning artificial cavities, he or she can have it put at the Q&A web-page.
Anyone without access to WWW can have some free 250 KB of computerspace to present non-commercial
material concerned with artificial cavities.

"Souterrains" newsletter
The commission produces regulary a paper print newsletter called "SOUTERRAINS".
It contains a hardcopy output of the latest news that was added to the Web since the
last issue. So anyone with contact to WWW, does not need the paper copy of
"Souterrains".
This newsletter is both in french and english. The subscription fee of the
"Souterrains" newsletter is free for anyone who contributes to the network.
Otherwise it is required to pay NLG 10.00 of USD 7 after receiving each issue. To receive this
newsletter, contact the addres below or mail to jorbons@xs4all.nl.
